Summary

A family-owned property in a landscape that is both wild and romantic, fringed by misty mountains with views that reach into infinity on the plains of the Great Karoo. The reserve consists of 70,000 acres with 3 totally different properties supplying accommodation for all needs and tastes.

Karoo Lodge provides traditional colonial-style comfort, with five spacious suites in the main building – all with great views of the landscape and the mountains, and another five huge suites nearby – so guests can choose the intimacy of the main house or the privacy of the suites.

The Manor at Samara has four private suites in an old African homestead given a contemporary twist with its design and creature comforts. Rented exclusively, it has its own chef, ranger and safari vehicle as well as its own swimming pool.

The Mountain Retreat is exactly what it says – a hideaway in the mountains which can sleep up to 10 people, and is ideal for families or a group of friends to rent exclusively. At one with the landscape and close to the bushman paintings, it provides an unforgettable experience. It also has its own game ranger, chef and housekeeper.

  • Daily game drives and bush walks
  • Samara spa
  • Cheetah walks and Aadvark night safaris
  • Specialist children’s programmes
  • Mountain top picnics

Space, space and more space are on offer at Samara, where a wonderful wildlife rehabilitation programme has transformed the landscape. The range of accommodation caters for all budgets and although it is a three hour drive north from Port Elizabeth flying by light aircraft reduces this to just 20 minutes. The cheetah walks and aardvark night safaris are definite highlights.
