Falls, Desert and Delta

Livingstone (for Victoria Falls) - Kalahari Desert - Okavango Delta | 10 days / 9 nights | 2 people

Overview

Botswana continues to be the most popular safari destination in Africa, not least because of the diversity it offers, including it’s proximity to the world famous Victoria Falls. This itinerary starts with a flight from Johannesburg up to Livingstone on the Zambian side of the Falls. The noise and spray can be seen on leaving the airport and for the journey to your hotel. Time here is spent admiring the views of the Falls, taking flights above them and cruises on the mighty Zambezi.

From Livingstone you will head into Botswana for your 2 centre safari, starting in the stark beauty of the Kalahari Desert. The diversity of animals here is staggering and you will have the chance to see how they have adapted to living in such a harsh environment.

The trip finishes in the famed Okavango Delta, offering some of the best game viewing in the world. Depending on the time of year, walking and canoe safaris will be available in addition to your normal game drives.

Day 1

You will be met by an Africa Travel representative off your flight into Johannesburg and assisted with your luggage and check-in for the flight up to Livingstone. There you will be met and transferred to the Royal Livingstone Hotel (20 minutes) where you will be staying for the next 3 nights on a B&B basis. The rest of the day will be at leisure for you to relax.

Overnight at The Royal Livingstone, B&B basis

A classic colonial style hotel on the banks of the Zambezi River, just a few metres from The Victoria Falls themselves, The Royal Livingstone is the iconic hotel of the area. Rooms are spacious, set in blocks away from the main building and have their own butler to serve them.

There is a great choice of dining options here, however, for many guests, a highlight is the decking area over the river, providing a perfect location for a Sundowner drink with a stunning view of the Falls.

Day 2

Your time at The Falls is at leisure to relax and enjoy some of the many activities on offer (additional cost). These can either be pre-booked or arranged through the concierge at the hotel, but if there is something you are set on doing we would recommend pre-booking.

You can access the public walkways around The Falls via the neighbouring Zambezi Sun Hotel (small National Park fees payable locally) and enjoy the views from a different angle. We would recommend hiring a poncho from one of the vendors as you will get very wet otherwise! There is also the chance to enjoy a “Flight of the Angels” above the Falls, either by helicopter of microlight, with a variety of durations available.

Day 3

Another day for you to relax and enjoy the Falls, perhaps just taking the day to enjoy the lush gardens and fantastic facilities at the hotel. For those feeling adventurous, game drives into the nearby Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park can be organised as a prelude to your Botswana safari. There are also sunset boat cruises on the river organised by the hotel, another great way to see the Falls from another angle.
